Efficient Parallel Path Checking for Linear-Time Temporal Logic With Past and Bounds

چکیده
Path checking, the special case of the model checking problem where the model under consideration is a single path, plays an important role in monitoring, testing, and verification. We prove that for linear-time temporal logic (LTL), path checking can be efficiently parallelized. In addition to the core logic, we consider the extensions of LTL with bounded-future (BLTL) and past-time (LTL+Past) operators. Even though both extensions improve the succinctness of the logic exponentially, path checking remains efficiently parallelizable: Our algorithm for LTL, LTL+Past, and BLTL+Past is in AC(logDCFL) ⊆ NC.

Practical Model Checking of LTL with Past
LTL (Linear Temporal Logic) has become the standard language for linear-time model checking. LTL has only future operators, while it is widely accepted that many specifications are easier, shorter and more intuitive when also past operators are allowed. Moreover, adding past operators does not increase the complexity of LTL model checking, which is still PSPACE-complete. However, model checking...
متن کاملOn the Complexity of Temporal-Logic Path Checking
Given a formula in a temporal logic such as LTL or MTL, a fundamental problem is the complexity of evaluating the formula on a given finite word. For LTL, the complexity of this task was recently shown to be in NC [8]. In this paper, we present an NC algorithm for MTL, a quantitative (or metric) extension of LTL, and give an AC algorithm for UTL, the unary fragment of LTL. At the time of writin...

This thesis presents efficient parallel algorithms for checking temporal logic formulas over finite paths and trees. We show that LTL path checking is in AC(logDCFL) and CTL tree checking is in AC(logDCFL). For LTL with pasttime and bounded modalities, which is an exponentially more succinct logic, we show that the path checking problem remains in AC(logDCFL). Our results provide a foundation f...
متن کاملLTL Path Checking Is Efficiently Parallelizable
We present an AC(logDCFL) algorithm for checking LTL formulas over finite paths, thus establishing that the problem can be efficiently parallelized. Our construction provides a foundation for the parallelization of various applications in monitoring, testing, and verification. Linear-time temporal logic (LTL) is the standard specification language to describe properties of reactive computation ...
متن کاملA CEGAR-like Approach for Cost LTL Bounds
Qualitative formal verification, that seeks boolean answers about the behavior of a system, is often insufficient for practical purposes. Observing quantitative information is of interest, e.g. for the proper calibration of a battery or a real-time scheduler. Historically, the focus has been on quantities in a continuous domain, but recent years showed a renewed interest for discrete quantitati...
